Pre-requisite
The Institute of Arabic aims to cater for the needs of students from differing backgrounds. As such we will endeavour to where possible have courses for students from beginner level all the way to advanced level. Students will be assessed to ascertain which level their Arabic is at and will then be placed in a level to suit their needs.
The course is delivered making use of modern teaching methods incorporating new technologies to make the subject easier for the students to learn. The teacher will interact with students to bring the abilities they have to the fore in lessons which will be learner-centric rather than totally based around the teacher.
Course Details*
The course aims to combine the tried and tested method of presenting the subject matter in the target language. Moving away from the grammar focused style of teaching the aim of the course is to teach Arabic but at the same time let students enjoy and use the language. The teacher will give instructions in Arabic and try to ensure that the students have understood what is being taught. This will help to create an atmosphere in which students begin to feel think instinctively in Arabic, rather than constantly trying to translate their thoughts.
All lessons are accompanied by audio files, which will aid the acquisition of the target language as well as help improve pronunciation. The main focus of the course is to enable students to learn the vocabulary associated with many everyday situations so that they can use what they learn. The grammar involved in the various dialogues covered will be touched upon but students will not be expected to learn it. That will be left for later in the course.
Each module runs for a four-week period at the end of which there will be an end of module test. Classes are held two nights per week between 8:00-9:30PM.
Progression on the course is dependent on the successful passing of modular tests. However, experienced students may join an advanced module subject to passing a preliminary test.
